My film Double Agent, premiered at Clearview Cinemas on 23rd Street in New York City at the Twentieth Annual Bronx Community College Film and Video Festival.
My professor and past attendees told me that premiering one's film at the festival is a magical feeling but no amount of preparation nor explanation could prepare me for what happened. I wrote this at 1:43AM and I'm still coming down from the high of seeing my film on the large cinema screen.
It starts with the energy of the people. The other filmmakers are all equally as nervous as I was. The anticipation of seeing one's film on a giant cinema screen is indescribable. As the previews of past films and the screening of our goofs and gags played, I would have to say that it didn’t make me any less anxious.
I was happy to see the actors and crew that could make it. I wasn't certain because it was the middle of the week and some people couldn't get the day off, but I was quite floored that they could make it. My family that made it, included my mother and father. This meant a lot to me. I don’t really see them as much as I would like and this was a fulfilling experience for them to see the fruit of my labor and where all of my attention has been.
I was very happy to receive just the one Peter J. Rondinone Memorial Award for my film, as six of us got up to accept and then I sat down I was very excited to see the other winners. when I sat down, one of my professors congratulated me on winning the Marie Nesbitt Promise Prize and it only hit me as they called my name that he wasn’t talking about the award I just won. I was floored. I think I just kept spinning from this point forward.
I won three more awards that night, The Avid Technology Editing Award for Excellence In Television Non-Linear Editing, BCC Film and Video Production Award and 2nd Place overall.
I think my face hurt from all of the smiling that I did but I loved every moment of it and wouldn’t trade it for anything.
I’m so grateful and so blessed. Hard work and smart work truly pays off. I didn’t give myself any hopes of winning anything in particular, that way I could not be disappointed. I received more than I had ever imagined. Never think that anything is too insurmountable. Just put your best in, knowing that it is your best and you will reap great rewards.
